This drug is a potent form of cannabis and the charge is a felony in Texas. Apple was on a tour bus when the group stopped at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca. When the hashish was discovered Fiona admitted the the drugs belonged to her and the rest of the group was allowed to continue on the journey. Apple was taken to jail and detained until the following morning when she posted bail and was released.
Hudspeth County, Texas, and the city of Sierra Blanca, has gained a reputation over the last few years as a number of celebrities have been caught with drugs here. Some of the most well known celebrity busts in the area include Willie Nelson, Arnie Hammer, Snoop Dogg, and now Fiona Apple. The singer was due in Austin on Thursday for a concert but the website for the venue showed that the concert had been postponed. According to Becky Dean Walker, who is the local judge in the county, the celebrities busted were all caught because they tried to go through the area with drugs and illegal substances. Apparently this is one small Texas town that takes protecting the citizens from drugs seriously, and the celebrity status of the people busted does not prevent local law enforcement from doing their jobs well.
