In Wampsvilles, New York, a 30 year old man recently needed an AA meeting so badly that he was willing to drive drunk to reach this goal. Nathaniel Snyder, who is from Sherrill, New York, has admitted that he was intoxicated when he crashed into a pickup truck that was parked. Snyder has an excuse that he believes is acceptable though, he needed to attend AA. When Snyder was arrested on March 19 his blood alcohol level was more than 0.24, which is 3 times the legal driving limit in the state. Because of the high test results Snyder faces a felony charge for an aggravated incident of driving while intoxicated. Most people would call a friend, or even call a cab. Snyder should be commended for going to AA to try and get a handle on his alcohol addiction, but going to a meeting drunk is pointless and driving in this condition is stupid and dangerous.
Apparently this is not the first time that Nathaniel Snyder and alcohol have mixed with legal consequences. In 2008, just 3 short years ago, Snyder was convicted for DUI. As the saying goes, this was not his first time at the rodeo. The attorney hired to represent Nathaniel Snyder denies that further substance abuse treatment is necessary, saying that Snyder has learned his lesson. According to the attorney Nathaniel has given up alcohol completely and has not engaged in drinking since the accident occurred. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen. It is very possible that the judge could order further substance abuse treatment when Snyder is sentenced on September 20, 2012.
