Pennsylvania Rehab Treatment Centers
Harrisburg is the capital city of Pennsylvania, and there are more than 12.4 people who live in this state. The crime rate for the state is lower than the national crime rate average by 21%. The rate of property crimes is not as positive, because 15% of the crimes in Pennsylvania are not property crimes and typically involve crimes against individuals instead of crimes against property. Property crimes include theft, robbery, burglary, and other crimes that affect property. Crimes committed because of substance abuse or addiction are responsible for many of the crimes reported in the state, and Pennsylvania does not have enough rehabs and treatment facilities to effectively address these issues completely.
In Pennsylvania there is an average of 60 deaths per month due to illegal drug use and overdoses, and 300 residents will die in a typical month because of alcohol use and related factors. Pennsylvania police will make around 6,300 arrests every single month for drug offenses and approximately 4,800 arrests per month for DUI offenses. Many drugs pose a threat to Pennsylvania residents. Cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, crack, prescription drugs, club drugs, and marijuana can all be found in some if not all areas of the state. Methamphetamine use so far is limited to the city of Philadelphia and the surrounding areas but law enforcement are concerned that this use will spread. Crack cocaine is widely available in populated areas of the state, and powdered cocaine is also abundant because of the close proximity to New York. Club drugs are often found in larger cities that have clubs. Prescription drugs are highly valued on the street and the abuse of these drugs continue to increase. Heroin use in Pennsylvania is also on the rise because the drug cost has dropped as the purity level continues to go up.
Marijuana is the most abused drug in Pennsylvania. In the state marijuana possession up to 30 grams is a misdemeanor that can mean up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine. If more than 30 grams of marijuana is possessed it is still a misdemeanor but the sentence is up to 1 year in jail and a fine up to $5,000. A second or further offense can cause the penalty for marijuana possession to be doubled in Pennsylvania. Selling or cultivating marijuana in Pennsylvania is a felony regardless of the amount involved. Either of these charges can bring 1-10 years in prison and fines from $5,000 to $100,000.
